Agua limpia para PR (Clean water for PR)

Fundraiser Organizer

Fundraiser Overview

Many Puerto Ricans haven't had access to clean, potable water since Hurricane Maria devastated their island on September 20th. A percentage of the population is still without running water, forced to collect it at local streams and creeks! Even those lucky enough to have running water have to boil it, since primary municipal water sources are still testing positive for E. coli while some sectors' water have Leptospirosis. Boiling water is expensive (requires fuel/ electricity), inconvenient, and it represents a safety hazard, especially for children, the elderly and the disabled.

On December 9th, The NY Times reported that actual deaths since the hurricane were 1,052 and that the average number of daily deaths went up from 82 before, to 118 after the hurricane. Not having easy access to clean water is undoubtedly part of this crisis! This is why myself, and ARHS' Unidos por Puerto Rico are asking you to donate on this website. They have both staff and volunteers in PR distributing water filters to many communities since the hurricane hit. They use Sawyer water filters, which I personally use when hiking the Appalachian Trail: I know firsthand that this filtration system is both easy to use and very effective. It's also the most cost-efficient way to get pure potable water to communities in need: One filter can provide 100 people with clean water for up to 5 years/ one million gallons!

Please help us alleviate the suffering in Puerto Rico by contributing, so that families can have easier access to clean, healthy water. Please donate!
